The User Interface: the AVANTI Browser

(Slide show available)

The AVANTI Web Browser (acting as a front-end to the AVANTI system) provides accessibility and high quality interaction to all potential users through a single unified browser interface. It employs adaptability and adaptivity techniques at both lexical and syntactic levels, to address the different abilities, skills and diverse requirements and preferences of a wide range of users, including disabled and elderly people.

The browser includes an adaptation mechanism with adaptation rules driving syntactic and lexical changes in the user interface and a knowledge space of static and dynamically inferred user information and states; a monitoring mechanism for tracking user interaction and communicating interaction data to the UMS; and the adaptable and adaptive browser interface which dynamically creates and delivers the various interactions in appropriate mode and style, consulting the adaptation mechanism for appropriate rulings.

Some of the main AVANTI Browser features include:

  • Enhanced history control for blind users;
  • Scanning & gravity to facilitate interaction for motor-impaired users;
  • Link review & selection acceleration facilities;
  • Document review & navigation acceleration facilities;
  • Enhanced bookmark visualisation;
  • Linear & graph history visualisation for sighted users.
