The Multimedia Database Interface

he Multimedia Database Interface (MDI) interfaces the core adaptive engine of AVANTI with different remote databases holding information on a range of topics. The HSA or UI will ask the MDI to get images, audio and video files, plain texts and any other resource identifiable through conventional URL addressing of any remote database. The MDI will query the databases to extract all the information requested, then, using the information stored in the AVANTI Content Model, the MDI associates the general type of information requested to the specific type of information stored in a well defined database. Having retrieved the information using the native database communication protocol and management language the MDI combines all the data and sends it back to the caller. The MDI thereby provides the main interface to different information sources and hides the distinct database implementation and manipulation.
